Seeking: Dynamic special education teacher for homeschool and private school inclusion program
Hello! We are an Ashburn family in search of an outgoing, passionate and exceptional intern/teacher for a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience providing in-home instruction and private school inclusion assistance for our 13-year old son.
The position is to begin this spring, summer and possibly ongoing into the school year. This opportunity would be excellent for a graduate student in the special education, speech-language pathology, social work or psychology fields; or a special education teacher that is seeking an interesting opportunity to customize and work with a team of established professionals in the northern Virginia area to design and implement an effective inclusion program.
We’re working in the relational model to build developmental goals and administer a program focused on furthering social interaction, executive functioning skills and learning to stay on task in home and in small groups. Prior knowledge of and experience with these models is welcome but not a requirement for the position.
The candidate should have insight into the beautifully unique minds of children identified with executive functioning challenges, high functioning, ASD and working knowledge of dyslexia is a plus. Candidates will need to be confident in their approach, yet flexible. They should be open to participating in and, in some cases, helping define “out of the box” approaches to learning, whether we are focused on learning new curriculum or learning social and life skills.
Ideally, the candidate could start in the spring 2017 timeframe, before school is out in order to gain knowledge of the child’s current program. The days could be flexible, anywhere from 2-4-hours a day (2-3 days a week) depending on the candidates’ schedule, extending through Summer with the possibility of continuing into the school year. The timing could be adjusted for the perfect candidate.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student hoping to bolster their own skill set, personal development and work experience within a hands-on, well-supervised program. It is also an excellent opportunity for an experienced special education teacher that would like to expand his or her repertoire of educational techniques and participate in an experienced team of local professionals.
If you are that candidate, I’m eager to hear from you. Please contract Billie Jo Bevan at bjbevan@gmail.com. Thank you for supporting special education!
